NEWThe Writing Course
Task 1 Email · Task 2 Opinion Essay · Task 3 Integrated Essay
all 3 Praxis 5195 Writing tasks · one 50-minute plan
Writing is the one section where you run the clock. Spend too long on the easy task and the two essays pay for it. This course gives you a plan for every task, a way to score yourself like a rater, and a 12 / 18 / 18 clock so every task gets finished on test day.
It's not your Spanish. It's the clock.
I passed the Praxis 5195 on my second attempt (159 → 174). On test day, I made the classic Writing mistake.
The email is the easiest, most formulaic task, so it gets the least time. 12 / 18 / 18, with a hard stop on each. This course is everything I'd do differently, so you don't learn it the hard way.
Start with your Writing baseline
Module 1 is free: the 3 tasks, how raters score, the 50-minute clock, and a full Form A Pre-Assessment with original prompts, sample answers and the ★ + 5 Self-Score Rubric.
3 tasks. 3 checks. One way to score yourself.
Every Writing task is scored 0–3. The course turns the official rubric into a ★ + 5-check Self-Score Rubric you can run on your own writing, then trains it task by task.

The 15 minutes I'd take back.
I went from 159 to 174 and passed. Cultural Knowledge went from 5 to a perfect 12. Reading went from 13 to 21. But in Writing, I gave 15 minutes to the easiest task and rushed the two essays that needed the time. Not because I couldn't write. Because I didn't have a plan for the clock.
So I built the course I wish I'd had: a plan for each task, a rubric you can run on your own writing, and a clock that protects all three tasks.
Is this course for you?
YES if you…
- Write well in Spanish, but run out of time or leave a task unfinished
- Answer most of the email but miss one request
- Don't know what raters actually look for, or how to score yourself
- Struggle to use the passage in Task 3 without copying it
- Are retaking, and Writing is holding you back
NOT YET if you…
- Are still building basic written Spanish (start with daily writing practice first)
- Haven't looked at the Praxis 5195 format at all (start with the free Start Here map at praxisspanishhelp.com/overview)
- Want memorized essays to copy (this course teaches you to build answers on any prompt)
Frequently asked
Are these the real ETS prompts?
No. Every email, prompt, passage and sample answer in the course is original, written to match the official task format and timing. I describe what the official materials show, but I don't copy them. You practice the format, not memorized answers.
I'm a native or heritage speaker. Do I need this?
Fluency isn't what's being tested on its own. Raters check whether you completed every part of the task, developed it and delivered it clearly, in the right register, on a 50-minute clock. That's a skill you can train.
Why 12 / 18 / 18 and not the ETS sample split?
Lesson 1.3 shows both. The email is the easiest, most formulaic task, so I give it the least time and protect the two essays, with 2 minutes left to proofread.
How do I score myself without a teacher?
With the ★ + 5 Self-Score Rubric: one gate check (did I do every part?) and five yes/no checks. It takes 2 minutes, and every timed rep has sample answers at 3 · 2 · 1 · 0 to compare.
Will my practice scores match my official score?
They're practice estimates based on the rubric, not official ETS scores. What they give you is direction: your weakest task, your weakest column, and your gain from Form A to Form B.
How long do I have access?
Lifetime access. Module 1 is free, so you can take Form A and see how the course works before you buy.
Your Spanish is ready. Let's give it a clock.
5 modules · 23 lessons + 2 bonus · the ★ + 5 Self-Score Rubric · 3 Task Reference Cards · 3 timed reps with samples · Form A + Form B · a test-week plan.
